In my artistic practice, the act of making is just as important as the final shape of the work. The repetitive nature of my processes, involving hand-building and casting, makes my way of working meditative and rhythmic by nature. Through repeating elements I’m able to work practically with the themes of transformation, interconnectedness, and the interplay between material and immaterial worlds embedding the work with these aspects from the moment of its conception.
I rely on materials and processes that embody transformation. During my studies, I felt drawn to clay for its versatility, as it can shift from liquid to solid; to bronze, as it undergoes a cycle of liquefaction and solidification symbolising renewal; and to glass, which balances fragility and strength while shifting between transparency and opacity. Each of these materials is both ordinary and meaningful, reinforcing my exploration of the subconscious and the potential for inner transformation.
